Nestled in vast bushland on a reclaimed golf course carved into the foothills of Mount Macedon, Alice Miller offers a uniquely Australian experience for sport and exercise, complete with a full-sized gymnasium, outdoor tennis courts, and a picturesque soccer pitch lined by a crowd of native flora.
This exceptional environment inspires physical activity—you can ask our social sportspeople, state representative athletes, and cross-country cohort, who frequent the tracks winding deep into the forest every Friday, or the countless creatures and critters that fly, trot, and scurry alongside them.
Facilities
From active lunchtimes to interschool training, whole-school games, or a friendly round of four-square in the morning before class, we are equipped with progressive facilities to practice, play, and foster a passion for movement—whichever way you like to do it.
At any given time, you might wander into a fiercely friendly basketball tournament taking place in the gym, detect a World Cup-like atmosphere emanating from the depths of the soccer pitch, or witness zombie apocalypse survivors repelling a hoard of undead students from their sanctuary in the middle of the dam—you’ll have to see it to believe it.
Cross country
The cross-country program is a hallmark of our community, motivating young people to be lifelong athletes at their own speed, from leisurely to breakneck. Each week, students and staff venture into the bush on one of many well-trodden tracks, established through years of roaming by shoes of all different shapes and sizes—a symbolic reminder of our students’ impact on this landscape and it on them.
Orienteering, rogaining, bush walks, and whimsical wanderings complement the cross-country calendar, allowing all Alice Miller inhabitants to draw life and creativity from our breathtaking surroundings.
Interschool sport
Our students compete in a wide array of interschool sports tournaments, from basketball, volleyball, and netball to mountain bike orienteering, athletics, and swimming. Coached and celebrated by teachers and parents, our teams pride themselves on their collaboration, integrity, fair play, and, above all else, enjoyment of whichever code they are participating in, whether as first-timers or wily veterans.
Despite being a small school, we have experienced bountiful success in various arenas, including divisional wins in tennis and soccer and state representation in orienteering and cross-country—a credit to our students’ hard work and the limitless possibilities of our program.
